Patterns By Raggedy Ruth Designs

Raggedy Ruth Designs™ - An Introduction

“Raggedy” Ruth Grihalva creates her fully illustrated, color patterns with a step by step approach that will provide a  novice quilter with success and new ideas and techniques to the intermediate to professional quilter.  As quilting is more than an art, you’ll find her “bed size” quilt patterns never come in just one size as sizes twin to king are included.

Intriguing games and illusions are often incorporated into her patterns. These range from the use and placement of colors to achieve the unexpected to building on a single block to attain different looks.

Ruth’s patterns are detailed and easy to follow. One reason is that she often is introducing new, more efficient ways deal with the familiar, such as half square triangles. Also, unlike pattern designers who are also marketing a fabric lines, her cutting charts and directions make the most out of the fabric you buy. In addition, may a quilter has had problems in their projects that are solved using Ruth’s techniques.

Her designs have been used for block of the month programs & shop hop quilts.

Kits $29.95.

Feathered Snowflake Star

Now that "Winter Time" has passed [pardon the pun], Ruth is wrapping up her new "Feathered Snowflake Star" wallhanging.

Her color wave is light and whispy, like snow. This is a paper piecing.

The  pattern is $8.00.

The picture shown is before quilting and binding.

Winter Time

Remember the "Fall Back" wall hanging that Ruth finished a month or so ago? The one with the woven Indian corn, pumpkin, leaves, rake, .... well a fall motif! We sold out of the kits in one month!

Well, she just finished the Winter sister to it: "Winter Time". Complete with the hearth and fire for protection from that cold winter wind! Or, to warm up from making the snowman even though you were wearing your scarf, hat and mittens. Don't forget the scented holiday candle complete with accompanying holly!.

On every design Ruth does something that really surprises me. This one is the detail of the hearth. Not only does it have a wreath and socks, but a fire with log and grate. Love it!

You can click on it and enlarge it another 50%. But, nothing is quite like seeing it in person.

Fall Back

This is the first in the Season Series by Raggedy Ruth. This 19" x 45" wall hanging has excellent applique patterns, including instructions on weaving the Indian corn. Getting the pieced borders to come out even will be a snap with her instructions.

Everyone who saw this in the making fell in love with it.

Road To The White House

A new pattern by Raggedy Ruth Designs.

Take a twist on the "white house steps". This pattern has the steps set on point. Unusual in this approach is that the sashing matches the outside block corners to make the flower effect.

The pattern creates Throw through King sizes.

Checkerboard Star

Who says your stars points need to all be the same length?  This quilt dares to be different, floating its funky styled stars across a sky of checkerboard squares.  Dramatically shown using black & white prints it would also work great with vivid primary colors or pale pastels.

This pattern eliminates any possible problems with getting the points of stars to line up properly! This is for you if you can not get your points to align, or hate doing it!

Patchwork Star

Let your stars shine with this table runner or wall hanging. Instead of a dark star on a light background, this pattern turns it around to make a light colored star appear to float on a darker pieced background.

Each pattern has two possibilities:

  1. a wall hanging of 21 1/2" x 21 1/2" and
  2. a table runner that is 44 /12" x 21 1/2".

Cosmos Star

Love the look of appliqué over pieced blocks. Easy log cabin pieced blocks form a star pattern and provide the foundation for this lovely array of Cosmos flowers in triple bouquets, double bouquets, single flowers and even linked in a chain for the borders.

Its size is 48" X 59".

Based on the traditional Triple Sunflower block, this wall hanging pieces its LeMoyne stars together but avoids the hassles of set-in corners, by appliquéing  the star to the center block along with the flower’s centers, stems & leaves.  The center block is framed with diamond tipped strips pointing towards that outer border.

Lazy 8's

Looking for a different kind of sampler quilt.  How about one with octagonal blocks?  While it might sound difficult to make, the 8-sided affect is an illusion caused by matching each blocks corners with it setting fabric.  The result is this stunning 8-sided blocks floating amid what appear to be diamonds set on-point.  A special pieced 1st border completes the illusion perfectly on this 84” square quilt.

Also a great shop hop or block of the month pattern.

Don't Fence Me In

Go down on the farm with this precious 36” x 44’ baby quilt.  Adorned with cute appliquéd farm animals [sheep, rooster, pig, mouse, dog, rabbit, cow, cat & horse] surrounded by a rail fence.  Simple embroidery stitches complete their eyes and whiskers.  Finished with two checkerboard borders and a final outer border this quilt is sure to please.

Each face illusion is an included appliqué pattern.
This could easily be used for placemats [don’t be too obvious with the assignment of the pig placemat] or other decorative items. This could also be a simple shop hop or BOM-type project.
