Long-arm quilting and hand quilting bring different looks and distinct capabilities to your quilts.

Our shop features two Gammill Optimum computerized Statler Stitcher models. This allows you stitching ranging from uniform regulated stitching to automated stitching, bringing you the look, detail, and uniformity that you simply can not get from hand, machine, or free-hand long-arm quilting.

To many quilters the joy is in designing, selecting fabrics and piecing quilt tops, Long-arm services can free you up to piece more beautiful quilt tops.

It’s easy, just bring us your quilt top and we’ll give you a free written quote.

Service Cateogries:

Basting For hand quilters and/or home machine quilters, the basting is done in rows and columns for the entire length and width of the quilt in 3 to 4 inch blocks. Large stitches make is easy to remove once your hand stitching is completed.

Edge-to-Edge
[E2E or Pantograph]

A single pattern is used on the entire quilt top (including borders) from left to right. Many designs are available to enhance or compliment your quilt’s design.

Our E2E patterns have been divided into 5 Categories Stipple, Basic, Intermediate, Detailed & Complex for pricing.

Custom Specific placement of pattern(s) on quilt’s blocks, sash-ings, borders, setting squares etc.

Our custom services include stitch patterns that the Statler Stitcher computer can perform.  We do not do manual long-arm work. (e.g. Stippling around objects and/or backgrounds, echoing shapes etc…)

Binding A French binding with mitered corners will be attached by machine to the quilt ready for you to turn and hand-stitch to complete.

We will only bind quilts with straight sides and 90o corners.

Hand-stitching of binding to back is also available but it is more cost effective for you to do this step.

“Checking In” a Quilt:

·   Our #1 concern is for the proper care and safety of your quilt(s).  Quilts stored at our facility awaiting processing are strictly monitored, numbered and locked on-site.  Our strict regulations regarding quilt processing are solely for the purpose of protecting your cherished property.

·   ALL quilts accepted and placed in our queue must be viewed and discussed with Ruth Grihalva or Ruth Schmitzer A quilt can not be left at the store without being processed by one of them.   Call ahead (419-358-0656) to make an appointment.

Quilt Preparation:

 (Required for ALL Quilts )

·   Have Batting cut 4” to 6” larger than quilt top.

·    Have Backing cut 6” – 8” larger than quilt top.

·    YOU must add filler strips to extend backing and/or batting if not large enough as per above.  Feel free to use our training room machines if necessary.

·   Lay your quilt out on a flat surface and verify that the quilt [especially the borders] lay flat (See fullness disclaimer)

·   Have quilt top trimmed to final finshed size.  We will not “cut-down” a quilt top to fit a too-small backing.

·   Quilt tops must have four (90-degree) corners.  Curved corners are NOT accepted.  If hexagonal in shape, YOU must add filler strips to extend corner to  90-degrees angle. Feel free to use our training room machines if necessary.

·   Remove all excess loose threads.

·   Remove ALL pins, buttons and/or other embelishments.

·   Have quilt top and backing fabric completely pressed, making sure ALL seams are pressed flat.

·   Do not attach ANY  binding fabric to the quilt top, and if you intend to bind your quilt by bringing the backing fabric to the front,  you MUST let us know that at your check-in appointment.

·   Selvege edge of fabric should be removed from seams on backing. The selvege edge will shrink differently when laundered causing later pucking at the seam line.

·   DO NOT baste, knot, sew or partially quilt the quilt top to batting and backing. If you intend to have a quilt that is both long-arm and hand stitched or knotted, it must be long-arm stitched first due to the nature of the mounting process on the long-arm machines.

·   Use one safety pin to mark the "top" of quilt top, and backing fabric (if directional).

·   Verify that all seams are complete and that no open seams and/ or holes are present.

·   Have ALL exterior (usually the outer border) seam endings back- stitched to prevent them from pulling open. This also applies to the backing fabric if it has been pieced. (One can also serge or sew a 1/8” straight stitch around the outer edge of the entire quilt top to secure these seams)

·   To allow the binding to secure tie-offs on sides of quilts, we start our edge-to-edge(E2)  patterns slightly off the quilt’s edges.

·   On custom quilts & centers of E2E quilts we knot the thread ends twice and clip them.  If you do not want us to clip the threads but leave them long for you to pull-through later,   YOU must  let us know at your check-in appointment.

·   Your quilt top must be completed, and it and the  batting & backing must meet all of the above preparations BEFORE it will be assigned a place on our queue.

BINDING ISSUES

We consider standard binding to be a folded 2½” strip attached to the FRONT edge of the quilt and the quilt trimmed leaving ¼” reveal of batting & backing.

·   YOU must let us know if your binding requirements differ.  E.G. Bringing backing to the front, need a larger trimming reveal etc…

Fullness Disclaimer:

Fullness and/or puckers within a quilt and its borders cannot be quilted out. Although we try our best, we cannot guarantee that puckers and tucks may have to be sewn in. In some cases, excessive fullness in borders may result in our quilt corners not being square. The flatter your quilt lays, the better the finished results.

Mechanical Disclaimer:

Please be aware that sewing machines, including long-arms, are mechanical devices. Although we do our utmost to insure perfect results every time, on very rare occasions mechanical problems can occur which may cause minor damage to a quilt top and/or backing.  [e.g. Needle breaks…]
